Picking a size is really about two questions: how much volume will the debris occupy, and how heavy is it? Volume determines the yard rating you need; weight determines whether a smaller low-side box is safer.
A 10 yard container holds roughly three pickup truck loads and suits a single-room flooring tear-out, a small bathroom remodel or heavy inert material like concrete. A 15 yard box is the sweet spot for garage cleanouts and roofing on modest homes. A 20 yard container handles most whole-house decluttering, large deck removals and mid-size remodels. A 30 yard box fits new construction framing waste and multi-room renovations, while a 40 yard box is for commercial volume and light, bulky material such as insulation or packaging.
When you are between two sizes, go up. Paying a modest difference for the larger box is almost always cheaper than a second delivery and haul fee.
